Michael Rrhizae Troyer

Thank you for visiting my woodworking portfolio. I love to bring the living character of wood into our lives through the structures and furniture that shelter and comfort us. I have an appreciation for discovering and crafting the dynamic form of functional things. Something as simple as a bed or a deck might seem to have a given form, but really their form is an expression of our form, and the ways that our bodies, minds, and hearts want to interact with our environment.

I would like to offer my service to anyone in need of a skilled woodworker or carpenter. I have a full wood shop and all of my own on-site carpentry tools. I also enjoy working with reclaimed, salvaged, and custom milled materials when available and desired.

I am available at friendly rates to build anything from custom furniture and permanent installations such as hardwood counter tops, book shelves, tables, decks, fences, and chicken coops to larger projects such as glass greenhouses, creative structures, tiny houses…

This king size bed frame was a custom design based off of a 3.5 inch walnut slab that the client wanted to use. I had the slab resawed into two slabs which were used as the headboard and footboard. The bed features mortise and through-tenon joinery as well as saddle joints for the legs. In a way of thinking, one will sleep 'inside' the tree, cradled between the two slabs.
